WONDERFUL GRACE

I recently heard a song that truly resonated with me. ‘Wonderful Grace’ by Tasha Cobbs Leonard. If you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend you to take time to listen to it before you continue! Close your eyes and let the words fill you.

The wonderful grace of Jesus, that always found me.

What does God’s grace finding you and setting you free mean to you?

I’ve heard women say they don’t deserve grace. Do you feel like this? As if you haven’t done what you should in order to fully receive God’s grace. Once you do this or that, you will be able to fairly accept God’s grace. Looking over you shoulder at what so-and-so is doing in her spiritual life and knowing you just can’t measure up. God’s grace is there for your taking, once you have done what you feel you should in order to be set free by it.

I’ve also heard women say they have a past that is too dirty and it isn’t as easy for them to receive grace. Do you feel weighed down by your past that you feel unworthy to receive God’s grace? You accept His forgiveness, and you know He is your savior, but receiving grace is on a different level. Not only do you have to repent from your mistakes, you have to make up for them. No matter how far ahead you feel you get, the past is always there reminding you that you haven’t earned to live in God’s embrace.

A defeating thing I have heard women say is they are too broken to receive God’s grace. Do you feel a traumatic event has left you feeling there is no possible way to feel the comfort of God’s grace finding you and freeing you? The pain and sorrow persisting inside leaves you feeling conquered by grief. To some it’s a grief welcomed and to others it’s a grief deserved. To all it’s a barrier between them and the grace of God.

Thoughts like these are saying grace comes to you through your works, goodness or timing. As if grace is dependent on you . I understand it is not easy to let go of the “why” you shouldn’t receive God’s grace. The dialogue in your mind tells you all the reasons why you shouldn’t or can’t be loved by God the way He loves you – at this time. My question is, if not now, when? When is the right time to accept God’s grace?

Spend time with these verses. Dig deeper into them and see what God is telling you about how you feel stuck in accepting God’s grace.

Don’t deserve grace?

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:8-10

Unworthy to receive grace?

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins. He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
Ephesians 1:3-8

Suffering without grace?

Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles. Psalms 55:1-2
[Insert your sufferings here]
My heart pounds in my chest. The terror of death assaults me. Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can't stop shaking. Oh, that I had wings like a dove; then I would fly away and rest! I would fly far away to the quiet of the wilderness. How quickly I would escape-far from this wild storm of hatred. Psalms 55:4-8
[Insert your suffering here]
But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He ransoms me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, though many still oppose me. God, who has ruled forever, will hear me and humble them. Psalms 55:16-19
[Explain your suffering here]
Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalms 55:22
[Trust God with your suffering here]

God’s grace is given to us because He loves us. He wants us to trust Him enough to give him our burdens so He can help us through our storms of doubts and sufferings. Even though we are God’s chosen we are still part of the fallen human race who sins. We don’t receive a “get out of sins free” card. We still sin. We still feel the burdens of sin. We still suffer. We still feel the burdens of our sufferings. But God is with us through it all. He is full of compassion for us. Is it time you accept His grace as your comfort.
